ACA Winter Programs

The Avalon Community Association is happy to offer two classes for the 2021 Winter Programming Session as follows:

Home Alone Course:

Friday, January 22, 2021 (6:30pm – 9:00pm)

Ages 9*-12

$30.00 + $5 ACA membership fee

Babysitting Course:

Saturday, February 6, 2021 (9:00am – 4:00pm)

Ages 11-14

$50.00 + $5 ACA membership fee

Courses will be held at the Avalon Alliance Church (basement) located at 413 Cascade St. Amber Blum will be the certified instructor for these classes.

All Covid-19 protocols will be met including mandatory use of masks (must bring your own), hand sanitizer and physical distancing. Please note that the classes are subject to cancellation in the event of Government of Saskatchewan Health Order changes or if the minimum number of required participants are not met.

Registration will be done via Email and Electronic Funds Transfer starting Wednesday January 6th at 4:00pm and closing Friday, January 8th at 4:00pm and will be on a first received first served basis.

Registration process is as follows:

  1. Email [email protected] and MUST include the following information:
  2. Participant Name
  3. Birthdate (participant must meet the minimum age on or before the class date)
  4. Address including postal code
  5. Phone number
  6. Parent/Guardian Name
  7. After information is received by the Director of Programs an email will be sent to you with payment instructions.
  8. Once funds are received you will receive a confirmation email.

The Avalon Community Association offers cost-as-a-barrier assistance for those facing financial difficulties who would like to participate in our programs. Please email [email protected] for more information PRIOR to the registration date.

*Please note that although Home Alone is for children aged 9 and over, the Government of Saskatchewan recommends that children are not left home unsupervised until they are 10 years of age. The Avalon Community Association is offering this program to prepare children for when they reach the age of 10. We stress that although this class will prepare children for staying home alone, it is up to the parent/guardian to make the ultimate decision for children readiness to stay in the home without adult supervision.

Growing Smiles Winter Fundraiser!

Our very popular Growing Smiles Fundraiser has returned with beautiful Winter/Xmas plants and arrangements to spread holiday cheer throughout your home (or think gifts for those hard-to-buy-for-people!)!!
 
Funds raised will be going towards the CP Seeley Park Enhancement project and the Rink at John Lake Park.
 
Please visit the link below to place your order. The order deadline is November 9 and pick up is November 24 between 5-7pm at 308 Wilson Cres.
 
Payment is cash or cheque to 2710 McConnell Avenue or you can pay by credit card right on the site.

ACA 2020 Annual General Meeting

Please join us for our Annual General Meeting on October 27, 2020, beginning at 6:30 pm in the basement of the Avalon Alliance Church (413 Cascade St).
 
This is a great opportunity to see your ACA board members in action and to voice your neighbourhood concerns to the board. We will be reviewing and accepting our 2020/21 budget, revisiting the past year and discussing the upcoming year including our goals, fundraising, and events.
 
We will also be holding nominations and elections for open/returning positions. These are: Vice-President, Director of Communications, Secretary, John Lake School Liasion and Directors-At-Large.
 
If you are interested in putting your a name (your name or another name) forward for an available position, or would like more information on the meeting or available positions, or if you have an issue you would like to bring to the board, please contact [email protected]
 
Social distancing measures are in place for this meeting and the area will be sanitized prior to our meeting. Masks will be available.

Did someone say FREE ICE CREAM? 🍦

On Saturday, September 12, The Daily Scoop will be opening at 3pm for the final time this year. And EVERYTHING will be FREE!! They will be open until all stock is cleared out.

In addition, we are thrilled to announce that the staff will be generously donating their salaries, and the owners, Pat & Marla, will match this amount PLUS all tips for this day to be donated to the Avalon Community Association! Half will be going to our CP Seeley playground enhancement project and half will be going to the Rink at John Lake Park!

Canada Day Parade

🇨🇦 Looking for something to do on Canada Day?Join us for a parade! 😃
 
Decorate your bicycle/scooter/stroller or whatever you wish to wheel on in Canada’s colours, and meet us at John Lake Park! The parade will begin at 11am and travel around the perimeter of the park/school.
 
The ACA will be handing out helium balloons to the first 50 people that arrive! 🎈🎈
 
We hope to see everyone, young and young at heart, on July 1st as we celebrate Canada Day!

Sarcan fundraiser update!

Sarcan is reopening June 15, so we are reminding our community & friends that you can support the ACA’s fundraising efforts by using their “Drop & Go” service once again!
 
❓Do you have a pile of recycling?
❓Do you want to save time at Sarcan when it reopens June 15?
❓Did you know Sarcan is recommending utilizing their “Drop And Go” Service?
❓Do you want to help out support your Community Association with fundraising?
 
If you answered “YES” to any of those here’s how you can help!
 
▶️go to any Sarcan location in Saskatoon and use the “Drop and Go” computer terminal (this is not the cashier)
▶️enter the password “[email protected]
▶️enter the number of bags you wish to donate, the computer will print the amount of tags you have entered
▶️place the tags on your bags and hand them to any employee
▶️you are done! It’s just that easy!
 
The ACA will receive 98% of your donation which will go towards the CP Seeley Park Enhancement (build time start soon!🙂) and ongoing rink upgrades.
