Just a reminder: as noted at registration there will be no classes on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Thank you!
The ACA 2019 Newsletter will be arriving in Avalon residents’ mailboxes this weekend. -Boot Camp is on Mondays only from 730-830 pm
-Biggest Loser Boot Camp is on Mondays and Thursdays (participants must attend both classes) from 830-930 pm
-Masterchef is offered on Mondays only at Tommy Douglas Collegiate
-Hip Hop with Stefaun will not be offered this session.
-Breakdance will not be offered this session.
-Karate is on Wednesdays from 715-8 pm.
-Advanced Tae Kwon Do is on Thursdays from 7-8 pm.
-Crafts for Kids is on Thursdays from 630-730 pm.

If there are any further questions or concerns, please email our Director of Programs at [email protected]
Again, please refer to our website for all program information.
The Leisure Guide deadline is in October. Many changes within the school schedule and bookings has occurred since then. Additionally, our instructors have had changes to their schedules that we have had to accommodate. We apologize for any inconvenience, and look forward to seeing everyone at registration night on January 7. 🙂
It’s time for Kindergarten! 😀
Parents of children who will be 5 years old on or before January 31, 2020 are invited to Kindergarten Open House & Registration at the 2 schools in the Avalon community.
If you are unable to attend, it is strongly encouraged you contact the school offices to register your child. Early registration ensures you get the time that suits your family the best.
Children are welcome to attend open house.
Open house at John Lake School – 2606 Broadway Avenue (public) – is on January 17 @ 6:30 pm.
Open house at Georges Vanier Fine Arts School – 820 Wilson Crescent (Catholic) – is on January 29 from 12 – 1 pm.
If you have any further questions, please contact the schools directly:
Grab your skates and head on out, because skating season is here!
Public skating is scheduled, unless the temperature is above 0 or below -25 with the windchill:
Mondays & Wednesdays: 6-8 pm
Sundays: 1-3 pm
The boot room will be open during these times so there is a warm place to put on your skates. Have a new or beginner skater in your family? No problem! During public skate times skate aids are available.
Please be respectful of other skaters and the ice! The ACA assumes no responsibility/liability for lost items, accidents or other incidents that occur on the rink.
Volunteers are needed to assist with supervising the public skating. Please email [email protected] if you are able to help out so we can continue to keep the boot room open. And we always appreciate it if everyone can assist with shoveling the rink of snow and ice to keep the rink clean: when a couple people shovel it goes quickly.
Looking forward to seeing you all out on the ice!
The Avalon Community Association will be hosting their second annual skate and slide on Sunday, December 9. Come on by the John Lake Park & Rink between 1 and 4:30pm to enjoy an afternoon of skating and sledding with your neighbours as well as your community association members.
There will be TimBits, hot chocolate and coffee to keep you warm and energized! The boot room will be open for warming up and changing into your skates, and skate aids will be available to help the littlest ones on the ice.
Our sponsors again this year are Smitty’s (Market Mall location), who are providing the beverages, and the ACA’s very own Scott Schierling (ReMax Saskatoon), who is donating TimBits.
This is a weather-permitting event, so be sure to check out our Facebook page on the day of the event in case of cancellation.
The Avalon Community Association will be hosting their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the new Fire Hall #3 at 2613 Clarence Avenue.
We will be starting the meeting with special guests: Councillor Mairin Loewen, our representative for Ward 7 on City Council; Patrick Skinnider from the Saskatoon Police Service and Dori Krahn from the Saskatoon Fire Department. They will be giving short presentations from their respective departments and answering any questions citizens may have.
The meeting will continue with members voting on changes to our governing document, our Bylaws/ Policies & Procedures manual.
Following this we will be holding our annual elections for new positions. We are still looking to fill positions for: Vice-President, Director of Programs and Director of Events. If you aren’t sure if you are wanting to commit to one of these positions, but want to be involved, we are always looking for Directors-At-Large. If you have any questions about becoming a board member, please contact [email protected]
We will end the night with our regular October meeting.
All citizens are welcome to attend the meeting, however, only those holding ACA memberships are permitted to vote. Memberships will be available to purchase. They are $10, valid for one year and good city-wide.
Coffee and snacks will be served at the meeting.
This is a great opportunity to meet your board members and neighbors, have a say in your community association and hear what is happening in your community from leaders in the city!
If you have any questions about the meeting, please send us a message on Facebook or email [email protected]
We look forward to seeing you all on October 24 at the brand new Fire Hall #3!
Hollywood is coming to Avalon on June 8! 🎬 We will be presenting “THE MUPPETS” (Disney 2011)
The ACA is hosting a family movie night at John Lake School. Doors open at 6pm, movie starts at 6:30. Admission is free for this all ages event. There will be a full concession with proceeds going back to the ACA. 🍿
No chairs will be permitted at this event, so bring your pillows and blankets and curl up with your family for a night at the movies 🎥 ! We also respectfully request that you support our Association and, therefore, no outside food or drink will be permitted.
We look forward to seeing you all on June 8! 😀
The ACA extends a huge THANK YOU to Shaw and the 8th Street London Drugs Location for their support of our event.
Registration for programs is on January 8th, 2018 630-8pm at John Lake School gymnasium. We accept cash or cheques only. Payment is due at time of registration. Please ensure you bring proof of community association membership in the form of membership card or receipt to registration. The ACA honours membership from other Saskatoon community associations. Memberships ($10 per family or individual) will be available to purchase at registration. Any registrations received after January 8 will be subject to a $10 late fee per class.
Registration is on a first come, first serve basis and spots in classes are limited, therefore we suggest arriving early to ensure you receive a spot in the class(es) you wish to register for.
The ACA provides Cost-As-A-Barrier for those individuals/families wishing to participate in our programming but are facing financial difficulties. The Membership fee is the responsibility of these individuals. Please contact [email protected] for more information or speak to a board member on registration night.
Please review the program schedule under “programs” as it differs slightly from the Leisure Guide. The schedule on our website and in the newsletter delivered to homes this coming weekend is correct.
Board members will be in attendance at registration night to answer any questions you may have. You may also email our Director of Programs, Angela Strand, at [email protected]
Looking forward to seeing you all next week!
