Class: Advanced Tae Kwon Do
My goal is to teach my students to focus and concentrate on the task at hand and Tae Kwon Do is the vehicle that I use. Parents are welcome, and encouraged, to observe the classes to see their child(ren)’s involvement.
Participants should wear loose fitting clothing to class that allows ease of movement.

I am a W.T.F. (World Tae Kwon Do Federation) certified Black Belt. I trained under Grand Master Kee S. Ha of Kee’s Tae Kwon Do for app. 9 years.
I have app. 30 years of teaching experience specializing in children and young adults. I also teach parent /child group classes. I have developed a style of teaching called L.T.L. (listen, think, learn)
I have taught continually since 1992 in community associations throughout Saskatoon and in the Avalon Community Association for the last 5 years. I can honestly say that I have learned and enjoyed my students more than anything else that I have done in life.
Class: Babysitting Course
In this course participants will have fun learning about being a babysitter, including how to care for, feed, and play with children of all ages. They will also be taught basic First Aid & CPR, and what to do in an emergency situation.
Participants will need to bring an infant sized stuffed animal/doll, water bottle, notebook, and pen, as well as a snack. No peanuts/nuts please. They will receive an instruction booklet and a certificate upon completion of the class

I am currently a stay-at-home mom with two wonderful daughters, both who go to John Lake School. We have lived in Avalon for 4 years and have enjoyed numerous programs through the Avalon Community Association. My husband, Derek, has lived in the Avalon area off and on for close to 20 years, and is currently the Treasurer for Avalon Community Association.
I babysit part-time during the week, and have my First Aid & CPR certificates.
I have been teaching Babysitting classes for 5 years, as well as Home Alone classes for 3 years, through St. John Ambulance, and have previously worked at a daycare for a number of years with children of various ages. I absolutely love teaching these classes and watching the participants learn skills to care for children, and grow to be confident in themselves as a babysitter.
Classes: Biggest Loser Boot Camp (BLBC)/Boot Camp
There are 2 components to the Biggest Loser Bootcamp (BLBC) to aid in a healthy lifestyle:
- Participants will be given a nutrition binder that provides information and recipes for healthy eating. This binder will provide guidance at home.
- There will also be 2 exercise sessions per week for the beginner and the more advanced participant. The workouts will be a little less then an hour as to give time for an optional private weigh in. The workouts will show participants various ways to challenge their bodies. Bring workout clothes, gym runners, towel, mat and water bottle.
Learn to respectfully challenge your body with various workout styles and intensity options in this progressive fitness class. Designed for all skill levels, you will experience a combination of heart pumping cardio, strength training, calisthenics, dynamic stretch, and eccentric movements to give a full body workout. You will notice a difference in your endurance, strength, balance, agility and flexibility. You will need workout wear, indoor runners, a mat, water bottle and a small hand towel (optional).

I was introduced to the fitness industry at a very early age, watching my mom choreograph her fitness classes and tediously create playlists on her tape deck. I remember finally being old enough to participate in classes and thinking that I wanted to provide movement to others. Now, I instruct my own fitness classes and I am very thankful I do not have to use a tape deck for my playlists. I have been SPRA certified in Group and Aquatic Exercise since 2012 and I have completed a current Standard First Aid and CPR course. I currently teach with Lead Pilates where I utilize my Balanced Body Comprehensive Pilates Instructor certification and I also hold a certification in Balanced Body Bodhi Suspension System. I have enjoyed teaching various classes throughout my 6 years of instruction and look forward to many more years. I believe in the importance of movement for a healthy mind and body.

Hi! My name is Amine, and I am 26 years old. I’ve been dancing Capoeira since 2004 and Tricking since 2004.
It’s been a great journey of learning and growing. Some of my achievements are: working on shows’ video clips, Redbull, Motorola and many other brands. I also won a championship in 2013 in North Africa.
I had all this experience to myself and I’m willing to invest it into the coming up generations!
Class: Crafts for Kids
Using mainly everyday items and some recyclable materials, participants will complete a variety of crafty creations in this fun-filled class. If you joined me in the ACA 2018 winter session, expect to see all new projects, including fall mobiles, paper squishies, Thomatropes, salt dough ornaments, and decoupage luminaries.
Girls and Boys, bring your creative side and be ready to cut, colour, and glue. Each student should bring an apron (things can get messy), a pencil and eraser, a ruler, good cutting scissors, a glue stick, and a shoebox (for carrying supplies and projects in).
Parents, you are welcome to stay and observe, and any willing “extra hands” are greatly appreciated. (Parents of students 6 and under are encouraged to stay.)

Hi everyone! I am a mom of one who enjoys reading, crafting, cooking, and floral design. In my childhood, if I didn’t have my nose in a book, I was likely creating something with my hands. I had a passion for things hand-crafted: sewing, card-making, jewelry design, pressed flower art, collage/decoupage, floral design, painting – I dabbled in it all. Now, as an adult, I enjoy cultivating my daughter’s passion for “arts and crafts”. I find there is something truly wonderful in our children’s artistic creations and I look forward to sharing the joy and satisfaction they get in the production of these treasures.
Classes: Hip Hop with Emily, Tiny Tots Ballet A & B
In each of my classes students will have fun while learning various movements specific to the style of dance. Throughout the session we will put together a short performance which will be shown to parents on the last day of class.
Parents are required to stay outside of the room for the duration of the class. There will be two viewing days where parents are able to come in and watch/video. Students should wear movable clothing, whether that be leggings and a shirt or a bodysuit and a skirt. For footwear they should either wear ballet shoes which can be purchased at for a reasonable price at Once Upon A Child or second hand at Dance Street, or they may have bare feet.

I am entering my second year of university with the hopes of being accepted into social work. I have danced for 9 years at Studio One and have been teaching for two. I am trained in many styles of dance including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, acro, contemporary, and pointe. My years dancing has given me many opportunities such as performing on telemiracle, competing in Hollywood, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. As well it has provided me with many lifelong skills and friendships.
Our classes are focused on the basic skills of Karate, such as blocking, kicking, striking, self defense and self awareness. The benefits of karate is that it teaches self control, respect, and raises confidence along with the ability to stay more focused on task in karate training and outside of karate training.
To start learning karate show up in something comfortable, if you like a karate uniform we can get you one just ask.

I received my black belt from Sensei Yutaka Yaguchi 9th degree black belt while training under Sensei David Jones 8th dan at ISKF Calgary, I am currently training and teaching under The Japan Karate Association International of Canada and 8th degree black belt Sensei Jerry Marr.
Classes: KinderGym, Kindersoccer, Tot’s Gym
In this class, toddlers will enjoy moving and shaking, singing and playing and having fun with parachute, bubbles and all other kinds of things that promote activity and social fun! Parents must be in attendance in the gymnasium for this class, participation is encouraged, but not mandatory. Children must wear indoor footwear.
In this class, preschoolers will play various games and sports while having fun building friendships, using their imaginations and working on important social skills such as group involvement, listening and cooperation! Parents may attend the first and last class, however, during the other classes, the instructor asks that they wait in the hallway while their child(ren) are participating in the class. During the last few minutes of class, parent involvement in “parachute & goodbye time” is always welcome and encouraged! Children must wear indoor footwear and comfortable clothing to this class.
Having fun learning soccer skills and getting into the game is the goal for this class. Children should wear indoor running shoes, comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle. Parents are encouraged to wait in the hallway during the class, however, they may attend the first and last class to observe the development of their children(s) skill level.

Angela Goldsmith has been teaching classes for over 20 years. She started out as a Gymboree Play and Music teacher in Calgary back in 1998 and has been teaching and coaching children in a fun, relaxed and loving way ever since. She comes from a philosophy of “everything begins with love and ends with learning”… and it all falls into place.
Besides being a Mom of 5 she also runs a petting farm as a professional clown, LaLa the Cutest Little Clown and LaLa’s Little farm.. and works hard all year round to bring smiles to families and entertain those around her.
Participants will be taught the basics of cooking, how to properly measure ingredients, safely use the stove/oven/knives etc. and have fun while making tasty food. Participants should bring an apron and a water bottle to class. Cell phones are not permitted to be on during class. Recipes for each item made will be provided at the conclusion of the program.
This class is being held at LutherCare Village which is a retirement community. On occasion, some of the residents may wish to observe the class and converse with the participants. This is part of our agreement with the Village and we request that participants are respectful of the residents and their home.

Hi our names are Jennifer and carol. Jenn ran a home daycare for 7 years. Her daughter signed up for this class a few years ago and loved it. Carol has been running a daycare for over 10 years and her son took the class as well. We both love working with children and when we heard the community association needed a new teacher, we thought it would be exciting to help other kids learn new things in the kitchen. We have loved teaching this class and have taught it for a couple of years now.
Our course includes 3 parts：
- Anapanasati Meditation (focus on breathing, good for the overall physical and mental health.)
- Meridian YOGA (Stretch safely and more efficient. dredge the meridians, Every style is good to some internal organs and joints)
- Woo Style TaiChi (Make your energy flow better, improve the energy level of the body)
Practitioners who practice for no less than an hour a day will feel a great improvement in health within a month.
Students will be provided with teaching materials in advance.
Students need to wear flat shoes and loose, sporty clothes.

Instructor: Sarah Hardy
Sarah began her yoga journey in 2006 out of a sheer desire to hold on to her flexibility and gain some strength in her bendy body – little did she know how truly transforming this practice would be for the mind as well as the body! Within a few years the desire shifted from a body transformation to a way to calm the mind after a long day. One day, in a particularly long pigeon pose, she came to the conclusion that somehow she needs to share this practice with anyone and everyone!
Her desired outcome with her classes is to support first-time yogis to kick off their yoga journeys with fascination and confidence, help more experienced yogis find the connection between body and mind and breath, and have fun with lots of laughs along the way!
She received her 200hr Yoga Teaching Certification in beautiful Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica in August 2016 from Passion Yoga School, under the direction of Addison Demaree Liederbach (Adi Shakti) and her team of talented teachers.
Aside from yoga Sarah loves being a new mom to her 9 month old son Silas!

Class: Spanish for Travellers
The basic for reading and writing
Most common verbs and vocabulary needed to participate in basic conversation while travelling and situations such as meeting people, transportation, entertainment, ordering foods, at the stores, doctor, drug store, to tell the time, months and seasons of the year, days of the week and colors.
Verbs, vocabulary and Spanish pronunciation will be learn by practicing short conversations.
Participants are required to purchase the textbook entitled (can be purchased through the ACA, cost not included in program fee): Learn Spanish. the Fast and Fun Way. Fourth Edition by Gene Hammitt.
Students also need bring to class: a notebook, a pen, and a pencil.
