The Avalon Community Association’s 2019 Annual General Meeting will take place October 30, 2019. It will begin at 6:30pm, and is being held at Firehall #3 on Clarence Ave. All community members are welcome!

You have waited patiently! Here’s our BIG NEWS!!😀

Each year the City of Saskatoon Community Services Department/Recreation & Community Development Division accepts grant proposals from Community Associations across the city for Park Enhancements.

This past Spring the ACA formed a committee of Chad Malinowski, Hayley McCallum & Angela Strand, with the help of Craig McCallum and JT Sprinklers, and submitted our first ever Park Enhancement grant proposal. The committee saw a need for further development at CP Seeley Park, located at Niderost Street and Underwood Avenue, to enhance the park to be more than the existing “tot lot” and welcome older children.

We are VERY proud today to announce that we were awarded the full grant! 👍

The plan is to build a new structure, which has been approved by the city, catered to older children, east of the existing play area.

We look forward to the Avalon community supporting us in this endeavour and our fundraising efforts to meet the rest of the requirements needed to enhance this playground for children in years to come!😀

 

Fall program changes!

Please note the following fall program changes:

  • due to a lack of instructor, Breakdance has been CANCELLED for this session
  • Tiny Tots Ballet A&B, and Hip Hop with Emily will now be held on TUESDAY evenings at the same time they were originally scheduled.
  • Ballet (6-8 years) will now be held on MONDAY evenings at the same time it was originally scheduled.

Registration Night Fall 2019

It’s that time of year again!

The ACA invites you to 2019 fall programming registration night at John Lake School gymnasium, September 4th from 6:30 – 8 pm.

For all programs offered please check out our website. Residents in Avalon will receive a complete program schedule in their newsletters in a few weeks.

A few reminders for registration night:
✔️we accept cash or cheque only for payment.
✔️payment is due upon registration. No post dates cheques will be accepted.
✔️children/youth MUST meet the MINIMUM age requirement for the class in order to be registered.
✔️a valid annual community association membership is required to register for all classes; an ACA membership will be available for purchase for $10/family. These are valid city wide.
✔️please bring proof of valid membership if you have membership other than in Avalon.
✔️classes are on a first come; first serve basis. Please arrive early so you ensure you get a spot in your preferred class(es).
✔️late payment is in effect. Any registrations received after Sept 4 is subject to $10/person/class. If you are unable to attend registration night, please contact our Director of Programs to make alternate arrangements.
✔️there is a $15 fee for NSF cheques.

The ACA is part of the Cost-As-A-Barrier program. For those families/individuals wishing to take part in our programming but are facing financial hardship, Please contact [email protected] for more information on this program.

The ACA Board is sad to announce the retirement of our longest serving board member, Ariane Zerr.

Ariane has donated 30 years of her time to the Avalon Community Association and other Community Associations in a variety of roles; she has held every position on the Board of Directors and has shared her talents through instructing children and adults in various crafts and ceramics classes throughout the years. Her wealth of knowledge and experience of the community will be missed by all of us!

Ariane was the original Director of Events who brought the ever popular avaLAWN afFAIR to our community; an event that will mark its 10th anniversary this year.

Please join us in sincerely thanking Ariane for her commitment for our community over the past 3 decades. We wish her and Larry all the best as they enter the next chapter of their lives.

The Big Shred

Happening this Saturday, May 4: the Big Shred!

Drop by the parking lot of McClure United Church (4025 Taylor Street) between 9am and noon with your old bank and utility statements, tax returns (2012 or earlier) and more! The service is by donation (suggested donation is $10 per paper box or $5 per shopping bag); funds raised will assist the McClure Place Foundation in paying off a new therapeutic tub for residents at Amy McClure House!

The avaLAWN afFAIR is back!

Back by popular demand!

The Avalon Community Association is  happy to announce that our avaLAWN afFAIR will take place on Friday,  June 14th from 5 to 8 pm on the John Lake Park and Elementary school  grounds.

This is a FREE, family oriented event open to everyone.   Activities include bouncy castles, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, balloon art and more!  The Saskatoon Public Library,  Wanuskewin, Remai Art Caravan, and Saskatoon  Fire Department will be participating, and several King’s Castle Super Heroes and Princesses will be dropping by throughout the event! The Avalon  Alliance Church will also be putting on a free kids’ movie night showing “Incredibles 2” at 7:15 pm.

Barbecue and other food will be available for purchase.

We are looking for vendors for this very popular event!  It’s a perfect opportunity for fund raising or with table rentals for only $15!  If you would like to participate, please let us know by May 20th.

URGENT: Ballet instructor needed

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!

We are looking for a ballet instructor for our Spring ballet session ASAP!

Emily has unfortunately had to cancel her Spring contract with us this morning due to conflicts with her school schedule.

If we don’t find someone in the next 24 hours we will have to cancel the Spring ballet class. The class is for 3-5 year olds on Wednesdays from 6-645 from May 1 – June 5.

Spring Program Registration Night

Spring has sprung (finally!) and the ACA is happy to celebrate by bringing you some of our popular programs for a 6 week Spring session!

Registration night will be on Thursday, April 18th from 6:30-7:30 pm in the Library at John Lake School.

Please bring cash or cheque for payment. Payment is due upon registration. We accept membership from other community associations. If you do not have a membership from Avalon or another community, you will be required to purchase one for $10.

Late registration is $10 so be sure to attend registration night!  Please note: there is a class minimum so a class does not meet the minimum requirements, that class will not run for this session.

Classes offered this session are:
-Boot Camp (adults), Tuesdays 8 pm, $50, April 30 – June 4

-Ballet (3-5 years), Wednesdays 6-645 pm, $35, May 1 – June 5

-Breakdance (5-9 years), Thursdays 6-645 pm, $35, May 2-June 13 (no class May 23)

-Crafts for Kids (5-9 years), Wednesdays 6 – 7 pm, $30, May 1 – June 5

-Yoga (adults), Wednesdays 7-8 pm, $40, May 1 – June 5
